Workshops
Since leaving my official teaching role at Ypsilanti Community High School, I’ve made it a goal to continue working with students through partnerships as an outside artist, either through existing art programs or by reaching out directly to teachers. My workshops range from one class visit to ongoing projects that take weeks to finish. Students are given prompts instead of directives to allow for authenticity and ownership, and they’re centered around accessibility in process and materials.
Past workshops have utilized out-of-use classroom resources from consolidated and closed districts to allow students to generate statements. Working with the pages of out-of-use school library books and wheatpaste is my most accessible process and my most common workshop. The photos below are from past workshops working with K-12 students.
